The Bathroom Reno Phase 1: COMPLETE

This bathroom was supposed to be a "quick fix", but a little bit of procrastination and a LOT of set backs put this at a 4 month project. Here's a reminder of the before:

The wine-colored cave

"Miss Piggy" lighting

Dark... Dungeon like... with SHIIINY silver fixtures
Then my mom came and we painted... and painted... and painted. It took 2 coats of KILZ and 2 coats of "Lettuce" by Eddie Bauer. Here's the finished product...

New shower curtain rod - brushed nickel

New toilet paper holder - brushed nickel

New towel rod - brushed nickel

New hand towel ring - brushed nickel

New hardware for the cabinets - brushed nickel

New light fixture - brushed nickel

New drawer pulls - brushed nickel
It's really hard to photograph paint and capture its true color, but just trust me - it's the light green from the shower curtain.

I'm really pleased with it - and I call it Phase 1 becauase at some point, I plan to refinish the cabinets and paint them WHITE! I can't wait, but it's going to be QUITE a project.

The light fixture was one of the biggest set backs in this project. Whoever installed the original light fixture didn't install a junction box, and the new light fixture needed to attach to a junction box. Only problem was, there wasn't a stud anywhere near this spot, so I needed what is called a "cut-in junction box" and thanks to my handy Stepdad Bob who had one on hand, it was going to be an easy fix.

We started with this ragged hole (notice the old purple)

Then I cut out a hole the size of the junction box (in the dark because I had to turn off the electricity)

I cut it with my handy dandy jab saw
But you can see it one of those pictures, that there is a PVC pipe in the way, so after all that, I still can't fit the junction box in. But I also got a circular saw for Christmas so with a little bit of magic and some perserverence, we ended up with this.
Charlie and Phil cut the back off box so it would fit
It's in!
But you'll notice, it's hollow back there so it was going to take some magic to get the light fixture to hold

We tried these... no luck

And 3 different versions of these and FINALLY got one to work
All that was left was spackling the other holes from the last fixture

...priming the last of the purple and painting

And ta-da... NO MORE MISS PIGGY LIGHTS!!!
I hope you like it as much as I do!!!!!!

PS: Thanks to my mom! Not only did she help TREMENDOUSLY with the painting, she also taught me the art of "cutting in" so that I no longer have to use painter's tape!
