We've moved our focus indoors now that it is practically dark when I wake up from my after school nap(haha). I finally got around to hanging up some curtains we already had and working on some new curtains that I "made" all by myself :) But first, I finished the fireplace.

Looking good!
Almost every set of windows in our house is in threes. Three skinny windows together. I've had trouble deciding if I should cover all three individually, one long rod with three panels, just the outside two, or the outside two and a gathered panel in the middle? Decisions, decisions! I started with just the outer two for now - so let me know what you think...

Does it look funny with just the two covered?
The window treatments in the living room are actually.... canvas drop cloths. They were on sale at Home Depot... they are already hemmed and they are light enough that they still let in some sun light. They are a boring beige color, but once we get the walls painted, I am going to decide on a color I like for some rosette embellishments and tie backs.
|
They are hung with ring clips so that I could fold under the hem I didn't like and clip it. I actually folded over the top and the sides when I clipped them - it gives them a little more bulk so they aren't just flat.
I also "made" the valances in the kitchen. They took me all of 10 minutes. I bought two yards of fabric at Hobby Lobby (two yards per window). I folded the fabric over "long ways" and tucked the cut edges in on the left and the right. I used upholstery nails to hang the left and right corners up on the wall. Then pulled in the center pieces to create a pleat and used upholstery nails again. No rods, hammers, or drills required. So easy!

The best part of those is that you can't even see the upholstery nails - easy peasy!
Our couch was on sale when we bought it because they somehow sold out of the ottomans that went with it. So I've had my eyes open for an ottoman to go with it. There are several "thrift" type shops around here that I frequent, but haven't bought anything since we moved here. But I was at the thrift store in Choctaw ("The Garage") and saw this ottoman and I was sold before I even knew if it would fit! It was in realllly good condition - clean. I couldn't fit it in my car anyway, so I went home to measure and Charlie went back to get it with his truck. Good ol' Febreze did it's magic at giving it a fresh, clean scent and it's been a great addition to our living room! P.S. - it was only $15!

Charlie loves having a place to put his feet up, Huey loves launching off of it, and I love that we now have a place to put magazines, remotes, and drinks!
This little house is coming along! And I loooooooooove being able to do all of the things we've never been able to do in our apartment!
